Detrending non stationary data for geostatistical applications Bragantia
Vieira,Sidney Rosa; Carvalho,José Ruy Porto de; Ceddia,Marcos Bacis; González,Antonio Paz.
The use of geostatistics requires at least that the intrinsic hypothesis be satisfied. The presence of a trend in the data invalidates this hypothesis. One of the ways of solving this problem is by subtracting a function fitted to the original data and working with the residuals. This technique also represents a change to a smaller scale of the variability and surface roughness. This paper describes the detrending technique of subtracting a trend surface fitted by the least squares method and discusses the results using topographical data as examples. The objective is to show how the detrending technique works for different scales and degrees of trend and how to interpret the results. It is shown that the simplest the surfaces fitted that does the work of...

Relationship between remote sensing data and field-observed interril erosion PAB
Moraes,André Geraldo de Lima; Carvalho,Daniel Fonseca de; Antunes,Mauro Antonio Homem; Ceddia,Marcos Bacis.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the relationship between different remote sensing data, derived from satellite images, and interrill soil losses obtained in the field by using a portable rainfall simulator. The study was carried out in an area of a hydrographic basin, located in Médio Paraíba do Sul, in the state of Rio de Janeiro - one of the regions most affected by water erosion in Brazil. Evaluations were performed for different vegetation indices (NDVI, Savi, EVI, and EVI2) and fraction images (FI), derived from linear spectral mixture analysis (LSMA), obtained from RapidEye, Sentinel2A, and Landsat 8 OLI images. Vegetation indices are more adequate to predict soil loss than FI, highlighting EVI2, whose exponential model showed R2...

Spatial and temporal patterns of soil water content in an agroecological production system Scientia Agricola
Neves,Hugo Hermsdorff das; Mata,Maria Gabriela Ferreira da; Guerra,José Guilherme Marinho; Carvalho,Daniel Fonseca de; Wendroth,Ole Otto; Ceddia,Marcos Bacis.
ABSTRACT: Spatial and temporal patterns of soil water content (SWC) can not only improve the understanding of soil water processes but also the water management in the field. The spatial distribution of SWC depends on the spatial variability of soil attributes, vegetation and landscape features. The aim of this study was to evaluate: i) the spatial and temporal variability pattern in an agroecological system; ii) understand the factors affecting the spatial variations of SWC; iii) determine if wet and dry zones conserve their spatial position; iv) evaluate the possibility of using this information to reduce the number of SWC measurements. The experiment was carried out in an area of 2,502 m2, where a regular grid with spacing of 10 m was laid out. At each...

SPATIAL VARIABILITY AND VITALITY OF EPIGEOUS TERMITE MOUNDS IN PASTURES OF MATO GROSSO DO SUL, BRAZIL Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Lima,Sandra Santana; Ceddia,Marcos Bacis; Zuchello,Fernando; Aquino,Adriana Maria de; Mercante,Fábio Martins; Alves,Bruno José Rodrigues; Urquiaga,Segundo; Martius,Christopher; Boddey,Robert Michael.
Epigeous termite mounds are frequently observed in pasture areas, but the processes regulating their population dynamics are poorly known. This study evaluated epigeous termite mounds in cultivated grasslands used as pastures, assessing their spatial distribution by means of geostatistics and evaluating their vitality. The study was conducted in the Cerrado biome in the municipality of Rio Brilhante, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. In two pasture areas (Pasture 1 and Pasture 2), epigeous mounds (nests) were georeferenced and analyzed for height, circumference and vitality (inhabited or not). The area occupied by the mounds was calculated and termite specimens were collected for taxonomic identification. The spatial distribution pattern of the mounds was...

Spatial variability of maximum annual daily rain under different return periods at the Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil Bragantia
Machado,Roriz Luciano; Ceddia,Marcos Bacis; Carvalho,Daniel Fonseca de; Cruz,Eleandro Silva da; Francelino,Marcio Rocha.
Knowledge of maximum daily rain and its return period in a region is an important tool to soil conservation, hydraulic engineering and preservation of road projects. The objective of this work was to evaluate the spatial variability of maximum annual daily rain considering different return periods, at the Rio de Janeiro State. The data set was composed by historical series of 119 rain gauges, for 36 years of observation. The return periods, estimated by Gumbel distribution, were 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 years. The spatial variability of the return periods was evaluated by semivariograms. All the return periods presented spatial dependence, with exponential and spherical model fitted to the experimental semivariograms. The parameters of the fitted...

The use of Pedotransfer functions and the estimation of carbon stock in the Central Amazon region Scientia Agricola
Gomes,Andréa da Silva; Ferreira,Ana Carolina de Souza; Pinheiro,Érika Flávia Machado; Menezes,Michele Duarte de; Ceddia,Marcos Bacis.
ABSTRACT Computer models have been used to assess soil organic carbon (SOC) stock change. Commonly, models require to determine soil bulk density (Db), a variable that is often lacking in soil data bases. To partly overcome this problem, pedotransfer functions (PTFs) are developed to estimate Db from other easily available soil properties. However, only a few studies have determined the accuracy of these functions and quantified their effects on the final quality of the spatial variability maps. In this context, the objectives of this study were: i) to develop one PTF to estimate Db in soils of the Brazilian Central Amazon region; ii) to compare the performance of PTFs generated with three other models generally used to estimate Db in soils of the Amazon...

Topography and spatial variability of soil physical properties Scientia Agricola
Ceddia,Marcos Bacis; Vieira,Sidney Rosa; Villela,André Luis Oliveira; Mota,Lenilson dos Santos; Anjos,Lúcia Helena Cunha dos; Carvalho,Daniel Fonseca de.
Among the soil formation factors, relief is one of the most used in soil mapping, because of its strong correlation with the spatial variability of soil attributes over a landscape. In this study the relationship between topography and the spatial variability of some soil physical properties was evaluated. The study site, a pasture with 2.84 ha, is located near Seropédica, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, where a regular square grid with 20 m spacing was laid out and georreferenced. In each sampling point, altitude was measured and undisturbed soil samples were collected, at 0.0-0.1, 0.1-0.2, and 0.2-0.3 m depths. Organic carbon content, soil texture, bulk density, particle density, and soil water retention at 10 (Field Capacity), 80 (limit of tensiometer...
